ICCAS Won ASME and CPCIF Awards for Achievements in Nano-PPD


Recently, the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) has won an international award and a domestic award, namely the ASME Global Pipeline Award and the first prize of the CPCIF Technological Invention Awards, respectively, for its achievements in the research on technologies for the preparation and application of nanometric pour point depressant (Nano-PPD) in the transportation of waxy crude oils. The achievements were obtained in a joint R&D project between ICCAS and PetroChina Pipeline Company (PPC), a subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited, started in January 2008 and ended in December 2012.

On September 26, 2013, ICCAS and PPC won the Global Pipeline Award issued by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for the joint R&D project at the end of the International Pipeline Conference (Rio Pipeline 2013), hold in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) through September 24-26, 2013. The award was established in 2005 and issued only one project per year, in recognition of outstanding innovations and technological advances by various organizations in the field of pipeline transportation.

More recently, the Nano-PPD technologies was also recognized nationally by receiving a first-class prize in the Technological Invention Category of the Science and Technology Awards of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) at the CPCIF 2013 Annual National Petroleum and Chemical Technology Innovation Conference hold in Beijing on October 25, 2013.

The goal of the joint project was to improve the fluidity of Daqing crude oil which has high content of wax, high viscosity and high pour point, to achieve energy-efficient economic pipeline transportation of high waxy crude oil, and to solve the first cooling operation of new and modified pipelines and support emergency safeguard measures.
